Wisconsin Maple Pumpkin Spice Cookies
September brings my favorite season: fall.
Soon we'll be trading hot summer days for cooler temperatures, taking long walks through falling leaves, welcoming trick-or-treaters and, if you're anything like me, starting to think about Christmas baking.
Of course, many of us welcome fall with a pumpkin spice treat.
For September, Twelve Moons Baking is putting a distinctly Wisconsin spin on that classic fall flavor with Wisconsin Maple Pumpkin Spice Wedding Cake Cookies.
These tender wedding cake cookies combine the familiar warmth of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, mace, and cloves with the rich flavor of Wisconsin maple granulated sugar. The maple adds a subtle caramel-like depth that makes these cookies taste like fall, with a little Wisconsin tucked into every bite.
And that's exactly what I love about using locally sourced ingredients. A familiar flavor can become something uniquely our own.
A Wisconsin Cookie
As you know, we use Wisconsin-sourced ingredients whenever possible. The September Cookie of the Month will feature:
Maple granulated sugar from Weiss Woods of Plum Creek
Organic all-purpose bolted flour from Meadowlark Community Mill in Ridgeway, Wisconsin
Butter from Weyauwega Star Dairy in Weyauwega, Wisconsin
The butter we use isn't just any Wisconsin butter. Weyauwega Star Dairy took first-place honors in both the salted and unsalted butter categories at the 2025 Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest.
That's a lot of Wisconsin goodness going into one little cookie.
Pumpkin Spice…Without the Pumpkin
I realize that not everyone is a fan of pumpkin spice flavors. My husband, for example, asked me where we would be sourcing the pumpkins for these cookies. I had to explain that pumpkin spice doesn't actually contain pumpkin.
If you're a September Cookie of the Month subscriber and pumpkin spice isn't your thing, just let me know. I'll happily substitute Caramel Apple Wedding Cake Cookies for your box.
That way, you can still welcome fall with a Twelve Moons cookie, even if you're willing to skip the pumpkin spice.
